A bit more about masks: it’s time to get on the bandwagon!

100% of proceeds from sales of VERSACIKNITS masks are donated to charities!
In May we donated over $3,000 to Vinalhaven Community Outreach and Vinalhaven Meals on Wheels.

Hello Friends!

Here I am again… in my car… in a mask! I quite literally don’t leave my property without a mask on.

You may be sick of me talking about masks, but… With new Covid cases in the US hitting an all time high 2 days in a row, it seems appropriate to look at what we can each do to help stem the tide!

Some of you bristle at the idea that masks are the new normal and some of you wrote to tell me how your area doesn’t have many cases so you aren’t wearing masks, but cases are now increasing most in areas where cases have been relatively low, so I really hope you might reconsider.

Here is an analysis published in the Philadelphia Inquirer 2 days ago showing Covid-19 cases in states where masks are “Recommended, but not required” and states where masks are “Mandatory in public”!

Where Masks Aren’t Required, Virus Cases Have Gone Up

Sixteen states recommend, but do not require, its residents to wear masks in public. In those states, new coronavirus cases have risen by 84% over the last two weeks. In the 11 states that mandate wearing masks in public, new cases have fallen by 25% over the last two weeks.

I am not trying to be political about this, I simply find it upsetting that so many people do not feel vulnerable but are becoming ill.

So, if you need a mask or two or three, I have been busy sewing. You can follow this link. and scroll through the selections. There are masks in sizes for adultchildren 5-12 and toddlers 2-4!

I have just updated the shop with some new fabrics…

And restocked some of the old favorites….

So head over and see what appeals to you.  And don’t forget your kids and grand children. Again, all proceeds are donated to charities!

I am partial to the tied masks for a number of reasons:

  • First, I find that I put it on and leave it on. It is so tempting to pull your mask down to talk or scratch or breath better, but this means that you are touching your mask (probably the front of it) and getting those germs on your hands!
  • Second, for me they are more comfortable (the tug behind my ears really bothers me. But these can be tied behind your ears, if you like that feel better and it is probably a good idea if you really do need to remove your mask periodically — but remember to remove/open your mask by holding the ties, not the front of the mask.
  • Third, they just seem to fit better, with the ties complimenting the folds so that the fabric covers from well under my chin up over the bridge of my nose.
  • And finally, they are so easy to wash and iron to be used again and again!
