New Pattern

SYNCOPATED: a great layering piece and way to play with color… … and, did I mention pockets?

This one has been a long time coming! I actually swatched this color combination over a year ago and many of you know that I obsessed about buttons for the whole of last summer. I was afraid that the vintage buttons were “too much”! At times like this, it is hard to work mostly alone and wonder how people will react to your work. In the end I decided to use the buttons that I like best! They make me so happy!

This has also been a really fun design to knit. It gave me the opportunity to work so many color combinations in so many different yarns! I learned a lot about hue, value and saturation. And I love how working 3-color garter ridge patterns creates a dot, dash and stripe look — Can we say SYNCOPATED? It is worth knitting this classic layering piece just to get to spend some time playing around with color!!

I have so many people to thank for this design!

So first, thank you to Jill Draper! Knit in Jill Draper Makes Stuff Mohonk Light(She has put together some beautiful colorways); this yarn is spectacular. I have used it before in my FARM-TO-SKEIN COLORWORK THROW. I love her colors. It is like working with the most stunning watercolors. This is by far my favorite combination for working this 3-color garter ridge stitch. I used Slate, Terracotta and Orchid. But I am very sure that each of Jill’s combinations will be equally spectacular (see photos below)!

Second, thank you Gale Zucker. The stunning photos by Gale Zucker Photographyfeaturing @sweetjsphn really capture the essence of the pattern stitch and the special details of this retro-feeling vest! Including the wonderful pockets (you can choose not to knit them, but why would you?) and rolled edging.

Also, thank you, Amalia Versaci, for giving me these fantastic buttons and standing by as I tried more and more sets.
